Upper North Wark is an excellent Lower Tweed beat with nearly one mile of prime Tweed water situated on the world famed stretch of the river between Coldstream and Kelso.
Given the location on the Lower Tweed, there is the potential to fish well throughout the season. The beat fishes particularly well in mid to higher water. The beat contains the famous Snipe rock pool, which is reputed to be one of the best on the Tweed in a higher water.
Under new ownership, the beat now has 3 full time ghillies all year round - head ghillie Martin Ritchie and 2 under ghillies. They are long standing Tweed boatmen and will enhance your enjoyment of the day. The beat has 5 wooden Tweed boats available for guests on a daily basis. The beat is generally fished from the boats unless lower water conditions make wading possible. Alternatively, the boats can be used as platforms from which to fish. Basically whatever medium of fishing you prefer can be catered for.
Their is a variety of water over the 4 named pools - Snipe, Mill Stream, Back Of The Isle and Wark Dub. In recent years, more of the Mill Stream has been opened up and increased access to parts of the beat not previously fished and there is a noticeable increase in the catches in these new areas.
When fishing in higher water sinking lines tend to be used with assorted poly leaders to cover the variations in the pools. The beat has ample off road parking and a well-appointed fishers' hut with heating, cooking and toilet facilities. The hut is situated at the centre of the beat and all pools are easily accessed. During 2019 a new fishing hut was built which has improved the facilities on the beat to an exceptional level.
