Aperçu

Dinnet is one of the classic fly fishing beats on the River Dee.The beat is located in truly majestic countryside, as part of a traditional sporting estate on Royal Deeside. During the spring months the beat is fished in agreement with Glen Tanar Estate (Deecastle Beat) in order that rods can fish from either bank. Two weeks are let in rotation by each Estate Office from the 1st of March until the end of June when the agreement ceases and Dinnet rods remain on the left bank during the summer months. It is worth noting that only fish caught on the Dinnet bank are recorded on the Dinnet page, fish caught on the Deecastle bank during the spring months are recorded on the Deecastle page.

The beat stretches for 3.2 miles and is split into three sections with each rod given their own water to fish. Rods then rotate during the day and throughout the week giving everyone a chance to fish the full beat . Rod numbers vary throughout the season as follows:

March – 4 rods (double bank)

April to end of June – 6 rods (double bank)

July to end of September – 3 rods (single bank)

Due to the fast-flowing nature of the Upper Dee and the variety of pools, the beat can be fished at all water heights. There are 3 huts on the Dinnet bank and the services of a ghillie are provided throughout the season. A second ghillie is also provided on the Deecastle bank from 1st April to the end of June. The beat is normally let on a weekly basis, but during some periods rods are let on a part week or daily basis. Any availability will usually be advertised on FishDee. All anglers are asked to meet the Ghillies at Dinnet Bridge at 9.00am each morning.

The beat sees a run of highly prized spring fish building and peaking in May where the beat usually sees good numbers of fish in the pools. This represents the cream of floating line fly fishing. During the mid-summer weeks, there is a good run of sea trout and many anglers choose to fish through the night for these enigmatic fish. During the late summer weeks, there is normally a good grilse run as well as bigger summer salmon ensuring the pools are usually well populated. Early booking is essential as demand to fish Dinnet is very high.
