The beat is fished from the left bank and there are 7 pools on the one mile beat. The top pool has the junction of the Gairn tributary which is a very productive spawning catchment in itself. The streams of Gairn is normally the top producing pool on the beat providing good salmon and sea trout fishing. The pools in the upper half of the beat can be offer productive evening fishing, which is allowed until midnight. There is no fishing between midnight and first light.
There are classic fly-fishing pools and due to the fast flowing nature of the River Dee and the variety of pools, the beat can be fished at all water heights. Productive flies are lightly dressed Stoat's Tails, Blue Charm, Crathie fly, Ally’s shrimp and Cascade as well as small tube flies in high water. Fishing with 12-14ft rods with shooting heads can offer a nice relaxing way to cover the waters efficiently.
There is a nice comfortable fishing hut situated at the upper end of the beat facing south and overlooking the river.
Streams of Gairn and Floating Bank fish best at a height of 0.6m on the SEPA measuring station at Polhollick.
Fir Tree is difficult to wade and requires a wading staff.
Little Polveir will hold fish at low river levels.
Big Polveir- accessibility is dependent on river level.
Larch Tree (or Marmalade) is on the Birkhall side and wading is required.
Morven is a low water beat and Streams of Gairn has a channel on the right bank, which holds sea trout
