Last week

(Last updated: Thursday 5th October)

Summer has been a river of ups and downs. It has been exceptionally wet and rarely have we have had a settled spell where the fish were on the take. As September arrived a few fish were getting banked notably a huge 25lbs fish at the Blue Lion caught by Jim Battersby. The fish took a large yellow fly of Jim's own tying. D. Bamford managed to hook 2 and land one on the Blue Lion.

Fish were also starting to show through the system with fish being caught from Bolton Estate down to Boroughbridge.

Guiding on Swinton in September we started really getting into them.... Des Kendall had his first Yorkshire Salmon a 13lber from Madges Pool. Jack Carrick, Alan Hall and John Kitchen had a couple of days on Swinton and fishing in Roman Ford managed a 6lber... Dan Sharp had a Grilse of 4lbs, another of my guests landed a lovely 14lber, Jack Triffitt fishing with his Dad Keith caught a 13lber his first ever Yorkshire salmon and proceeded to catch an 11lb brownie which is the largest wild Brown Trout I have ever seen.
Ian Booth got into his first ever Yorkshire Salmon and first ever salmon on Swinton again in Madges Pool... followed by another 2 fish on and off in Roman Ford... 2 further visiting anglers from Thirsk managed to hook and land a sea trout of 5lbs and a cock fish in full tartan colours around the 9lbs mark - again in Madges Pool.
As of today the beginning of October there are lots of fish showing and several fin clipped fish have been caught proving yet again that the hatchery program is working and the hard work put in by the Ure Salmon Group is paying off. Let's hope these magnificent fish manage to do their business and produce the next generation.

Things look good for October with the river at a decent level and further fish moving through.
